Tribute to Lar of Galen-January 2017 Issue

Lar of Galen...I've never been water boarded, but as part of my military training I was tear-gassed, flipped, thrown, sleep-deprived, and had machine gun bullets ripping thru the air just above me as I crawled under barbed wire.  As part of police training I was tear-gassed, flipped, thrown, handcuffed, shot with a tazer, and had bullets fired just above me while hiding behind a log.  The purpose of all this was to prepare me to face danger when it was real, and -- in the case of police training -- to know what it feels like for those I am required to do such things to.
Based on what I have experienced, I'm sure waterboarding is extremely unpleasant. It gives one theillusion of drowning. But it's not torture.  But it is effectiveBeyond that, I'm really not too concerned about what we have to do to get life-saving info from people who truly torture, behead, and burn people alive.
